Summer’s Slow Meander

MP3: Summer’s Slow Meander

By Duncan Walters

Orange the colour of the world
A song I’ve never heard
I want to hear it sung
Words alone are not enough
And if the sky should fall
We’ll all get painted blue
Then orange takes its place
Sleeping for country and for king
The king will understand
He plays banjo in the band
And we’re the ones who write the tunes
In the stillness and the calm
I can hear the turning spools
Churning acres of delight
While outside it’s getting light
I’m looking out the back
This room is facing north
Where the river meets the road
And the traffic passes by
In the summer time
In the summer time
In the summer
The road is melting in the heat
Of a burning summer sun
She’s the one, she’s the one
Now summer’s really here
Sleep’s been cancelled for the night
I’m waiting for the light
And the ringing in my ear
Announces she is here
So here it comes
The transatlantic beam
It’s brighter than I dreamed
It’s lighting up the place
Filling dark and empty space
To corporation’s broke
And leaders who’ll succumb
To illness and disease
And then we’ll dance in Churchill Square
F*** yeah
In the summer time
In the summer time
In the summer…
